We  brought these dogs with us when we moved to Australia from the USA in February 2003. We currently live in Victoria in the Macedon Ranges on a small 40 Acre farm about an hour outside of Melbourne.  We choose this name to denote the introduction of the breed into this part of the Southern Hemisphere and since the Southern Cross star-constellation is so often used to symbolize  the nation continent of Australia,  we thought it would be an appropriate name for our kennel. Please note that this is not a politically aligned or exclusionary site.  We are all about the breed!!

The aim of Southern Star Sarplaninac kennels is to promote the awareness of the breed in Australia and produce quality dogs for quality owners. The last thing that we would like to see is the over-breeding of this magnificent dog. We are looking to promote other responsible and knowledgeable  breeding programs around the country. We do not support breeders that are looking to make a quick profit out of this breed or misrepresent the breeds purpose or temperament. We expect to produce only one litter per year and will be working with overseas Sarplaninac breeders to import semen in order to create genetic diversity.
